Nicole Flats - Boardwalk and Bison Walk
We will leave Regina and head north to join the valley near Lumsden, taking a combination of highway and grid roads we will arrive at Nicole Flats. For this tour we will park at the Buffalo Pound Park end of the Nicole Flats.
Near the parking lot and washrooms there is an amazing board walk that heads into the marsh for some great photo opportunities of the valley, marsh, lake and birds that call the marsh home.
Off to the other side of the parking area there is the enclosure for the Bison sanctuary, if the bison are in the area it is a great way to photograph and learn a bit about these massive creatures.
A small trail takes us on a short easy walk to a small warm up hut with great views looking across the valley. It is not heated but offers some benches and a picnic table inside for the perfect spot of a rest and snack.
The trail brings us back to the parking lot where we will get back in the car and start heading back to Regina. The drive home is different than the route we took to get there. We climb out of the valley joining the highway and heading south to meet highway one. Just because we are heading home does not mean we have to rush, keep your eyes open for cool shots along the way. We often see snowy owls, deer, hawks and antilope along the smaller roads on this route.
